Emergency Support to Families in Need

HAWCA continues its support to the needy families in Kabul. This time the HAWCA staff went to Shah Shahid area of Kabul which is located outside the city and the people living in this area are mostly poor. We spoke with the families about their current needs and problems. Most of the families stated that they are unable to buy food items and get medical services since the prices have gone high and there is no jobs and income.
One of the families that received the aid was Susans, family. She is 31 years old and has 4 children. Her eldest son is 13 years old and is a daily worker in the local market. Some days he is able to earn 100 to 150 AFN but most of the days he is unable to even earn this amount. Susan is living in rented room with bad condition. Susans husband worked in one of the military departments of the previous government. With the arrival of Taliban, he escaped from Afghanistan. With tears in her eyes Susans says” My husband had to leave Afghanistan because his life was in danger, no one helped him to get out of the country and so he had no choice but to go to Iran and from there go to another country, it is almost 5 months that he has left here. About 3 months ago he has called us from Turkish border but since then I have no news of him, I am afraid he has died while trying to enter Turkey. Two of my children one is 1 years old and the other one is 3 years old are sick and I do not have money for their treatment. They are all I have and I do not want to lose them”.
Although HAWCA provided the family with the basic support that was available, many more families like them are in great danger and require immediate supports.
