Marzia who has lost her husband 6 years ago is living in a rural area of Kabul located in Afshar mountains. She says “I have diabetics and heart problem and cannot work, there is no one else in the family to work. Before the Taliban regime, I used to take two of my eldest daughters to neighboring houses to work and earn money for the family, but now from one side the people do not have money to spare and from the other side the Taliban are imposing limitations and people are afraid to allow young girls to their homes. I have a 13 years old son who is a student in one of the shops and years AFN 1000 per month which does not even cover his travel expenses. My husband worked with the previous government military and was killed 6 years ago. I was able to get his pension before the arrival of the Taliban but now even that is not paid to us. It has been 3 months that we barely find something to eat one timer per day. Most of the nights we have to sleep with empty stomachs”. With tears in her eyes she continued “ sometimes life becomes so hard that I want to commit suicide but then I think of my children and young daughters, if something happens to me then who will take care of them, who will protect them from the cruel world” she continued “ We are very happy that you brought us this aid package, may God in return fulfill all your needs, I still cannot believe that you have traveled all the way here to bring us this aid, please thank the donor and all those people who even though living in a peaceful environment and are a thousand miles far from her, yet remembers us and aid us, My God keep them all safe and happy”.
