It is about three years that I got married. My father and I were happy with this marriage but my mother did not agree because she wanted me to marry my cousin.

It was after marriage that I got to know that my husband is addicted to drugs. He has no job and so he cannot pay for my maintenance. On the other hands my mother in law threated me badly. She and my in-laws started beating and harassing me and prevented me from visiting my parents. Every day when my husband left the house, my in-laws locked me in the bath room till my husband came back. When I complained to him about his mother and sisters, instead of supporting me, he took their side and started beating me.

It was about 8 months that I was unable to see or contact my parents so my father came to my house to see what is happening. After seeing my condition, he took me with him and we went to my parents’ house. My father decided to take my divorce but my mother did not support me in this matter because she was still angry with me for not marrying my cousin. My father tried to get my divorce through mediation but my husband and his family did not agree and so after 2 years the case is brought to general attorney who referred me to HAWCA women protection center.

Procedure:

Her case was registered in the HAWCA registration book and the necessary information was given to her by HAWCA defense lawyer. A case was open in the court and a plaint was issued against her husband. At the end of the court proceeding the judge passed a decree giving divorce.

The client was very happy from HAWCA’s support and she stated that because of HAWCA now she has a chance to start a new life.
